If people don’t like the work you’re doing, you can choose to lock ‘em up. You can choose to spend your time hunting them down, addressing your concerns, and putting them in their place.
After doing so, you must continue monitoring them to make sure they’re behaving.
This requires time and energy — the exact same time and energy you need to dedicate to doing your best work.
In an infinite playing field, it’s also a zero sum game. You will always find another non-believer if you go searching. This in turn leads to an infinite jail cell where you lock away the non-believers. In an infinite playing field, you will always eventually find exactly what you’re looking for.
You can choose to spend your time hunting down every single non-believer and locking them away.
The good news is that you can achieve the same outcome by choosing to avoiding them altogether.
